LOOPIN’ with Chris Mundorf - Vol 2
Hello again from the road!
I’m here on the rainy Monterey peninsula getting ready for the AT&T National Pro-Am. Got an early start this week due to the missed cut last week at Torrey Pines. Not a big deal though, the greens were a nightmare. Poa annua is not the ideal putting surface, especially when it goes from brick hard the first day to a sponge the second. What a beautiful place though! Some of the best views on the PGA Tour!
The previous week was in Phoenix for the biggest outdoor party I’ve attended, I even think a golf tournament broke out. I’ve never seen such a spectacle. 30,000 people seated around the 16th hole. Completely enclosed with skyboxes and bleachers. I think it would be a great place to sell a lot of beer, I’ll have to suggest it to the tournament director for next year. Ha Ha!
Troy had a good week that had shades of brilliance. The first two rounds were pretty solid, then he went and shot 29 on the front nine Saturday to take the lead for a little while. A couple of loose shots on the back nine cost a couple more and hurt his chances of finishing in the hunt. It’s weird how you can go from not missing a shot for the front to not being able to do anything right on the back. It was still fun though!
As long as the weather holds out for us this week, it should be a good time. Lots of famous people, and some not so famous but way wealthier. No matter what happens, we get to take in the best scenery of the year. Hard to not have fun!
I’ll catch up with you soon.
Chris
