LOOPIN’ with Chris Mundorf - Vol 5

21 October 2009 No Comment

Hello everyone!

It’s been a couple of weeks since we talked and a lot has happened in that time!

First, we were in beautiful Syracuse, NY for the Turning Stone Resort Championship. Except it wasn’t so beautiful. We had 45 to 50 degree weather with a constant rain every day we were there. It was so bad that the PGA Tour decide that the only way to get the tournament in was to play the ball up “through the green.” This means that everywhere except in hazards or bunkers, you could lift, clean, and place the ball. What a concept! By the end of the week, Troy was trying to hit it in the rough because that was the only way he could take enough spin off his approach shots so they would stay relatively close to where they landed.

As for the golf, Troy had another one of those weeks that could have been exceptional, but one round killed his chances of that happening. He was T-8th going into the week-end, but a 75 on saturday derailed him and he ended up finishing T-47. On the bright side, he played with Calcavecchia on Sunday and I got to watch him hit his approach shots before the group in front of us cleared the green. I wish everyone in professional golf played that way, then it wouldn’t take 5.5 hours to play a round of golf.

On down the road. Las Vegas here we come. Troy won this tournament in 2006, so we were looking for good things to happen this week. After a blistering 62 to start, I was thinking maybe he was going to break out and finally get what he deserves. He’s played really well all year long and not getting the finishes he should. After leading in the first round, he shot 4 under the second to maintain the lead going into the week-end. Saturday didn’t start very well, 3 over through 7, but I rallied him and got him to make 4 birdies to finish with a 1 under for the day. He was still in it! Sunday turned out to be like last week’s Saturday, nothing went right! He dropped from T-8th to T-27th and really spent a lot of money that he needs to maintain his playing privileges for next year. Oh well, three more tournaments to go.

I’m missing the Frys.com Open this week to try my hand at Q-school in Florence, SC. Hopefully, I’ll play well and get to play some practice rounds with Troy instead of carry his bag next year! Send me some good vibes so that all my putts go in!
